Summer has finally come to Kamloops. We do not use air conditioning to cool our house or office. The office gets full westerly sun exposure which can make the afternoons uncomfortably hot. Each year we put up a piece of shade cloth to protect the west side of the office building. This is usually enough for most summer days. During the really hot days, I set up a swamp cooler in the office.
People have told me they have never heard of a swamp cooler or seen what one looks like. A swamp cooler is a low-tech air conditioner. A swamp cooler requires a fan and a container of water. The more surface area of water in the container, the better the swamp cooler will work. The water is put in front of the of the fan. The movement of the air over the water cools the room.
